About this site

This site is dedicated to remembering the defunct Waldensoftware chain.

Waldensoftware wasn't anything special. It was a software & video game store that operated in malls from ~1987-2000. They were originally part of the Waldenbooks/Borders family but from 1993 on were managed by Electronics Boutique. Every location that existed was either closed or converted to an EBGames store, many of those subsequently became a GameStop after they acquired Electronics Boutique.

And that's really the mission of this site - documenting the location of every original Waldensoftware store and what it is today.

Finding the original location of every store wasn't too rough. In early 1996 Electronics Boutique/Waldensoftware handed out some demo CDs that happened to contain a directory of every store open at the time. It's probably as accurate a list as can be found. It would be missing any stores that closed before then, but that was a very small number if any. There definitely weren't any new Waldensoftware stores opened after this.

Finding out what they are today is a bit tougher though - that's where help from visitors is needed. If you can fill in details about any of the former locations please visit the contact page. Whether it's a GameStop, pretzel stand, or under 20 feet of rubble we'd like to know. Any interesting facts, memories, or photos would be appreciated too.

So who cares about this anyway? Probably just former employees, most of whom are likely working in the IT industry today except those few who never managed to escape retail. Oh, and the former regular customers too, same bit about working in IT has to apply to them too.
